On the upper level of the Museum building the Illawarra
Historical Society has set up a schoolroom.
The displays vary from different eras relating to children’s
education. Old wooden school desks set the mood and rekindle some of the
visitors’ childhood memories. At the front of the room located near the
teachers desk is a large blackboard on an easel. Nearby is a bookcase
containing some children’s old story books. A show case contains an old
slate board, pens and nibs and even a teacher’s cane.
